Is the more intake and exhaust valves in the engine, the better

Today's topic is the valve. The valve is a movable valve at the top of a cylinder, divided into intake and exhaust valves. As the name implies, the intake valve is responsible for opening the passage of the oil gas mixture, allowing it to enter the cylinder for combustion. The exhaust valve is a passageway for exhaust emissions after combustion and consists of a valve, cylinder head, and piston crown. The valve is pressed open by the camshaft and the valve spring closes. When it is necessary to suck the mixture into the cylinder, the intake valve will open; When it is necessary to exhaust the exhaust gas after combustion, the exhaust valve will open.

Because intake air is inhaled and exhaust air is pushed out, intake air is more difficult than exhaust air; In fact, it's easy to understand. When you smoke, you must work a little harder and it's easy to smoke. For an engine, the more intake air, the better combustion, and the better engine performance. Therefore, the intake valve is generally designed to be larger than the exhaust valve in order to reduce the difficulty of intake and increase the intake volume. Some people just design more intake valves, with only 3 valves (2 in 1 row) and 5 valves (3 in 2 rows).

In fact, the more valves, the better. In fact, multi valve engines have the advantages of high speed and efficiency. The more valves, the higher the speed of entry, the better the exhaust effect, and of course, the higher the engine performance. However, everything has two sides, and multi valve is a double-edged sword. Although engine performance has improved, multi valve designs are also more complex, with valve drive modes.

The structure of the combustion chamber and the location of the spark plugs should be properly arranged. Engineers do not know how many brain cells will die. At the same time, multiple valves also increase manufacturing costs, as multiple valves require higher technological levels, resulting in higher costs and higher blood pressure for car company bosses. For car owners, the late maintenance cost of multi valve engines is also higher. Therefore, in general, although multi valve engines have advantages in performance, considering so many disadvantages may not be cost-effective. Therefore, most automotive companies have basically abandoned multi valve engines (such as 5-valve designs), and now 4-valve per cylinder is the mainstream.
